While there are no hard and fast rules, it’s generally a lot easier to open a cabinet door with a knob and a drawer with a pull. With that said, there are plenty of exceptions…
Bespoke – The right knob or pull can make a serious visual impact; the value of well-made hardware elevates the cabinets.
Knobs only: The benefit of cabinet knobs is that they are typically less expensive than bar and T-pulls, they have a smaller profile than handles and they only require one hole to be drilled into your cabinet. A single knob is used on cabinet doors and draws but two knobs are an option for larger draws
Pulls only: Cabinets that only feature pulls tend to make more of a statement and present a more modern look. The length of the pull handle will depend on the draw width.
Pulls and Knobs: It is also common to have both pulls and knobs featured in the kitchen. Knobs are most typically placed on doors, and pulls are placed on drawers.
Drawers and cabinets range in size, so it can be difficult to determine what size you need. While there is no set rule, we generally recommend that the pull length is approximately 1/3 of the cabinet or drawer width.
Small Drawers that are 300mm or less typically work best with a pull that is 96mm long or a knob that is 25mm in diameter.
Medium Drawers that are between 320mm to 760mm work well with a pull that is between 128mm , 192mm or 256mm long or a knob that is between 25mm to 40mm in diameter
Large Drawers that are 760mm to 1200mm will require a pull that is between 256mm ,320mm or 480mm or a knob that is 32mm in diameter or greater. Using two pulls or knobs for a large drawer also works well.
